I bloody won – UK National Blog Awards

Apologies for the mild profanity in the heading of this post but that is what I texted to Mr ATWWAH on the evening of the awards ceremony for the UK National Blog Awards.

Since beginning this blog in January 2013 I have realised there are a fair few blogging awards around and entering them are a good way to raise your profile and find out about other blogs, be they travel ones or not.

When I saw there was a call for entries for the UK National Blog Awards I thought why not enter?  The awards intend to celebrate blogs across all different industries, rather than focusing on one genre.  I didn’t really envisage being shortlisted, let alone winning, especially as the other blogs shortlisted in the category, Best Individual Travel Blog, felt more like ‘proper’ travel blogs to me.  I don’t earn a living from travelling the world etc, I just write about the places we go to and what it’s like taking a child with you on your adventures.

When I found out I was shortlisted I was so pleased, even more so that the winner would be decided by an industry judge rather than a public vote.  My blog following is pretty modest so public votes always fill me with dread 🙂  So it is thanks to the people at lastminute.com, who judged the travel category, that I won the award.

The Award

The awards night was an interesting one as I was going alone.  Usually when I’ve been to awards nights it has been with work colleagues and the aim of the evening is to drink and eat a lot and have a good time whereas this was one more about networking.  As I’m currently sporting a Baby ATWWAH bump having a glass or two of something fizzy wasn’t an option so I did a fair bit of wandering around, orange juice in hand smiling at everyone.  Luckily the lovely Emma from Merlin Events spotted me trying not to look too lonely and I spent the rest of the event with her and her boyfriend as company.  Big congrats to Emma, who writes the Merlin Events blog, as she was highly commended in her very competitive category.

I honestly didn’t expect to win the travel category at all so when my logo appeared on the screen and I heard, aroundtheworldwithahighchair, being read out I was so surprised.  I made it to the stage though and stood like a rabbit caught in the headlights as I had my pic taken with the award and then went back to my seat still not quite believing it to text Mr ATWWAH.  Lots of pics from the event are available here

So, thanks very much to anyone who nominated me for this award so that I was even shortlisted and to the people at lastminute.com for choosing my blog as the winner.  Thanks to the other shortlisted bloggers in the category who are definitely worth a read but thanks most of all to Mr and Master ATWWAH who I love very much.

  1. Fab, wonderful and congrats again! I also prefer things to be judged by judges as it just seems fairer.

  2. Congratulations again!
